PM Orban Distances Hungary From Crisis In Ukraine
"Hungary is not part of the conflict", Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said yesterday in his first comment on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine’s Crimea region.

Replying to reporters questions during a visit to K szárhegy, Fejér county, Orbán said Hungarians in Hungary and Ukraine are safe and the government is working to make sure that they remain safe.

Hungary is part of the common European effort to achieve peace, security and respect for international law, he declared, adding “These are the goals we are working for within European crisis management”.

Asked by Népszabadság whether the government considers a review necessary of the Paks agreement with Russia – given that two Czech cabinet ministers said yesterday that Russian companies should be excluded from the expansion of that country’s nuclear plant in Temelin – Foreign Minister János Martonyi replied that this question needs to be asked of those European countries that have €1-2 billion arms deals with Russia. Construction of a nuclear plant for peaceful purposes is another matter, he said.

LMP co-president András Schiffer called for a special session of Parliament to revoke the agreement, and said preparations for the project should be halted.

Fidesz MEP Tamás Deutsch tweeted “Russians go home!”
