Brussels Relies On Hungary’s Support For Integration
The European Commission relies on the Hungarian government’s “commitment to and support for” European integration in the future, Pia Ahrenkilde Hansen, the commission’s spokesperson, told a press conference on Monday.

Commission President José Manuel Barroso on Sunday congratulated Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orbán on his Fidesz party’s election victory, Ahrenkilde Hansen said, adding that the commission would not make any further comments on the Hungarian election for the time being.

The spokeswoman referred to Orbán’s role in consolidating the EU’s economic governance at the time Hungary held the EU presidency in 2011.

She noted that the economies of Europe and Hungary were now on a growth path, but warned that the crisis was not over, and further efforts were needed to implement the Europe 2020 strategy and strengthen economic governance.
