Socialists In Hungary Advocate Cap On Food Vat

Socialist members of the European Parliament will seek the introduction of a maximised value-added tax on certain products, including food, Tibor Szanyi, who heads the Socialist Party’s list of candidates for the upcoming EP elections, said in northern Hungary’s Gyöngyös on Friday.
Szanyi argued that in most European countries the VAT on food was 7-9%, and said that under the proposed legislation Hungary’s rate of 27%, currently the highest in the community, could be reduced to 5%.
