In 1840 he enrolled to the Royal Art Academy in Munich. In 1841 after a long study tour in different parts of Italy, he established his own architect office working together with Ágoston Pollack. From this moment he was a popular and often employed architect of his time.
His early plans were characterised by romanticism, later his building carried the obvious signs of the neo-renaissance style. He regarded the main creation of his life the Hungarian Opera House on Andrássy street. He was not only a successful architect but also a recognized member of the architect society of his age. The accounts of Ybl and his buildings show solid recognition of his work and personality. His main works of art are: the Opera House, Fővámház, the Church in Fót, Várkert Bazár and Saint Stephen’s Basilica.
Miklós Ybl died in 1891. His statue in memory of the great man and artist was raised near Várkert Bazár only 5 years after his passing away by public subscription.
