Hungarian Cellist Wins 3rd Prize In Eurovision Contest
Fifteen-year-old Hungarian cellist Gergely Devich has won third prize in the Eurovision Young Musicians 2014 competition held in Cologne. Devich performed Allegro appassionato by Saint-Saens in the final on Saturday.

He told MTI that he was delighted to receive the award and proud to represent Hungary in the competition. Devich was born in Budapest into a distinguished family of musicians.

He started studying the instrument at the tender age of eight. He now studies with the legendary Hungarian cellist László Mező at the Liszt Ferenc Music School.

He has won prizes both as a soloist and chamber musician, receiving, for example, second prize at the 2011 international music contest “Talents for Europe” held in Slovakia.

The first prize in Cologne was awarded by the five-member jury to Ziyu He, a Chinese-born Austrian violinist.
