In July, the Budapest Festival Orchestra received the Diapason D’or established and awarded by the prestigious French paper, Diapason. This prize is given every month to the very best recording of classical music.

The recording of Mahler's Symphony No. 5 by Ivan Fischer and the Budapest Festival Orchestra was considered to be the most outstanding performance. The CD was recorded during the last Budapest Mahler Fest in 2012 and published by Channel Classics in 2013.

The same recording was awarded with the Italian Toblacher Komponierhäuschen 2014 for the best Mahler recording of 2014. This album was also nomianted as a Classical CD of the Year by Iowa Public Radio and a Best Classical Recording in The Star-Ledger.

The international online magazine Audiophile Audition wrote, "Ivan Fischer leads the Budapest Festival Orchestra in a powerful performance while the DSD SACD sounds better than any recording of the Fifth that I have heard, including the Bernstein, Rattle and Abbado."

This is not the only recording of the BFO which is receiving enthusiastic responses: the recently published Symphony No. 7 by Anton Bruckner is also a great success. As The Guardian writes: „This account of the expansive Seventh Symphony is at once vigorous and lean. The clear, detailed performance brings a glowing transparency to the work.”
