Spring Spa Season Starts Early as this Classic Spot in Hungary Reopens

A Fresh Start for Siófok’s Favorite Indoor Retreat
The reopening of the Galerius Bath has been one of the most anticipated events on the southern shore of Lake Balaton. Since its sudden closure in 2021 due to significant technical failures, its absence has been felt by locals and international residents alike who relied on it for year-round recreation.
Following a comprehensive 1.8 billion forint (€4.6 million) renovation, the facility has shed its dated yellow-and-red exterior for a sleek, contemporary design. The upgrades aren't just cosmetic; the sauna area has been entirely modernized, and a brand-new slide has been installed to keep younger visitors entertained.
While the bath once again features a thermal pool, there is a minor technicality worth noting for spa enthusiasts: the water is sourced from the Veronika Spring in nearby Nagyberény and transported to the site by tanker.
Because it arrives via truck rather than a direct pipeline, it is officially classified as "thermal" water rather than "medicinal." However, for those looking to soak away the stress of the work week, the soothing properties remain exactly the same.
The doors officially swing open on April 1 at 9:00 a.m.
Early Spring Soaks in Western Hungary

Further west in Vas County, the Borgáta Thermal Bath—located just 17 kilometers from Sárvár—is also jumping the gun on the summer season. Known for its quiet, family-friendly atmosphere since the late 1960s, Borgáta is opening its gates on Wednesday, April 1, a significant shift compared to its usual schedule.
The facility offers a well-rounded mix of pools, including:
* Two thermal seating pools
* A classic swimming pool
* An adventure pool
* A dedicated children’s paddling pool
The water here is particularly rich in calcium and magnesium, making it a popular choice for those dealing with rheumatic or musculoskeletal issues. If you are looking for a less crowded alternative to the larger resorts, Borgáta will remain open throughout the season until September 30.
Whether you’re heading to the "Hungarian Sea" for the revamped Galerius experience or seeking the rural tranquility of Borgáta, the return of these facilities provides a welcome boost for weekend planning this spring.
