Restaurants In Budapest Fall Foul Of Tax Rules
Almost two-thirds of restaurants have made some kind of infraction against tax rules while 38% failed to give receipts, the tax office (NAV) said, reporting on recent inspections. Altogether 110 NAV inspectors visited 32 popular establishments in Budapest several times at the weekend, among them high-end restaurants and ruin pubs, and found that as the evening progressed more and more of them failed to provide receipts.

In some cases there was evidence of undeclared employment, such as someone who, despite holding a tray and serving customers, claimed not to be a waiter.

The NAV report highlights one result of note, namely that online cash registers connected to the tax office registered a 30% increase in revenue compared with the previous Friday in the establishments under inspection.

It said in its statement that NAV inspectors would make return visits to ensure complete compliance.
