FT: Hungary's PM Orbán Is A Burden For Navracsics
Whatever the strengths of Hungary’s European Commission designate Tibor Navracsics, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán casts a shadow over him, the Financial Times’s Brussels blog wrote yesterday, Origo reports. Several officials told the London paper that Navracsics is “the most likely commissioner to face a tough confirmation ride from the European Parliament”.

A leaked document suggested that Navracsics would be appointed commissioner for trade, but the FT considers it “highly unlikely” that he would get the “prized” trade portfolio, in part because Orbán voted against EC President Jean-Claude Juncker and feuded with his predecessor as Luxembourg’s EU Commissioner, Viviane Reding.

A Commission source told Népszabadság on Thursday that Juncker offered the international development portfolio to Navracsics at their meeting on Wednesday.
