Hungarian Foundation Ökotárs Raises Charges
The Ökotárs Foundation, which is among organisations that distributed Norway Grants in Hungary, has raised charges in connection with the publication of its internal correspondence which has appeared in Magyar Nemzet daily. Nol.hu reported on Friday that the civil organisation said it was impossible for the material to have got into the hands of Magyar Nemzet via a legal route.

The foundation on Thursday raised charges on suspicion of abuse of office and mishandling of personal data. It says the paper cited internal correspondence of the tendering management consortium, claiming that Ökotárs was intervening in the evaluation process, and that from time to time certain bids which garnered the highest points failed to win the tender.

Employees from the NGO told Népszabadság that, in their opinion, internal correspondence could not have been obtained by the paper legally. The NGO said that it cannot be excluded that someone printed out emails.

It insisted that the Government Control Office (Kehi) may have done so and it also speculated that the information may have been copied from laptops, two of which are still being held by the National Investigations Bureau, which also contained the relevant material. Whatever the case, neither organisation would be authorised to leak the information, Ökotárs told Népszabadság.
