This match might have been the last one in charge for Hungary’s popular interim coach Pál Dárdai as well, who is expected to return to his parent club Hertha Berlin, since his temporary mission in Budapest has expired. Under Dárdai’s leadership the Hungarian national team earned 7 points in 3 EURO 2016 qualification games.

As for the yesterday friendly match between Hungary and Russia, the home team created the first chance with Zsolt Kalmár’s fierce right-foot drive forcing a fine save from Zenit St Petersburg keeper Yuri Lodygin. Russia slowly worked their way into the match and Artem Dzyuba was sent clean through six minutes before halftime only for keeper Dénes Dibusz to save well to his left.

Russia took the lead after the break when defender Sergei Ignashevich put the visitors ahead early in the second-half with a header from a right-wing corner. Aleksandr Kerzhakov doubled the lead soon after with a smart finish from Alan Dzagoev’s through-ball in the 80th minute. Although Nemanja Nikolić pulled one back for Hungary six minutes later after being set free on the left of the penalty area by fellow substitute striker Tamás Priskin, Pál Dárdai’s team could not find an equaliser.

After the game Fabio Capello said he was satisfied with the result and with his team’s performance. ”I want to say to all Russian fans that I am completely confident in my team. I am sure we will get positive results in Euro 2016 qualifying”, Capello said.

The Hungarian coach, Pál Dárdai was pleased with the team effort and attitude of the players despite the result. “Whoever will be the next head coach of Hungary, he will be able to build on this team”, he said proudly. According to Sándor Csányi, president of the Hungarian Football Association (MLSZ), the decision on Dárdai’s future shall be made in few days.
