HUF 44bn For Police & Soldiers In Hungary
The cabinet will provide Ft 44 billion next year to raise salaries as it introduces a career model for armed forces and law enforcement personnel, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán announced at the Budapest headquarters of the Emergency Police on Tuesday.

Soldiers and police will see their wages rise by 30% on average, from July, he added.

Public safety and order were “in ruins” in 2010, he asserted, whereas today one can live in safety thanks to the police.

He said 3,500 new police officers have been hired, new bonuses were introduced for NCOs, police have received new uniforms and the fleet of cars was expanded by over 4,600.

Orbán formally presented 385 new police cars, stressing that the vast majority of the vehicles were made in Hungary at a total cost of Ft 9.4 billion, subsidised by the EU.

The fleet will be expanded by another 1,200 cars next year.
