Sándor Palace Opens to Visitors Again with Special Guided Tours Next Saturday
Visitors will once again have the rare chance to step inside Budapest’s magnificent Sándor Palace, as the official residence of Hungarian President Tamás Sulyok opens its doors for guided tours next Saturday, 30 May.

Announcing the event on Facebook, President Sulyok said the upcoming open day will be the seventh occasion in a public visitor programme launched in March 2025.

The initiative allows guests to explore the palace’s elegant ceremonial rooms, restored in refined early Classicist style, while learning fascinating stories from the building’s more than 200-year history.

Located beside Buda Castle on Szent György Square, Sándor Palace was originally built between 1803 and 1806 for the aristocratic Sándor family.

Later serving as the residence of several Hungarian prime ministers, the building was heavily damaged during World War II before being painstakingly reconstructed in the early 2000s. Since 2003, it has functioned as the official seat of the President of Hungary.

During the guided tours, visitors can discover some of the palace’s richly decorated state rooms, historical interiors and artworks, while also hearing lesser-known anecdotes connected to Hungary’s political and cultural past. Interest in previous open days has reportedly been extremely high, with places filling quickly.

Applications for the tours can be submitted through the palace’s official website  until 24 May midnight.

More background information about the palace and its history is also available via the Buda Castle official page for Sándor Palace.
