Danube-Based Olympics Concept Floated by Mayor for Budapest’s Summer Games

The event would be feasible without building new stadiums, he said on Saturday, adding that urban developments, particularly in transport, could be realised as part of the Games. All developments should serve the city's needs, such as improving suburban transport and access to the airport, he said.
Regardless of party affiliation, he added, it was important to heal divisions and work to achieve common goals and successes.
One working concept, he noted, is to open up the Games' organisation to cities outside Budapest, effectively creating a Danube-based Olympics.
The mayor called for social dialogue with the Hungarian government. "Hosting the next European Summer Olympics in Budapest would be a huge success for both the city and Hungary. Let this be a common cause that unites us!"
Zsolt Gyulay, president of the Hungarian Olympic Committee, announced that Kirsty Coventry, president of the International Olympic Committee, will visit Hungary for the first time next month, as Budapest hosts the European Olympic Committee's general assembly from June 11 to 13.
