Failure to do so would entail paying back the entire amount, he noted. He said that at the current time it would not be legal to introduce the charge because national lawmakers had banned it.

The government understands what the consequences would be if it failed to change this state of affairs, he added.

Tarlós, speaking about the new road toll system, said he had reservations about it, citing the example of buses ferrying public workers which have to pay the toll.

He said negotiations with the central government over the toll were ongoing.
