'Nothing’s For Something', Trafó Budapest, 6 & 7 February

Black curtains dance to The Blue Danube. After this extraordinary beginning, four performers take over the lead accompanied by spherical sounds. The dancers appear on a darkened stage – they emerge as points of light and colour accents and disappear again, leaving traces as they do so. Through the composition of moving bodies combined with variable stage elements, an organic form appears – a setting that begins to breathe and come to life.
With nothing's for something Heine Avdal and Yukiko Shinozaki are making a return to the theatre. Having focused primarily on space and the relationship between performers and spectators in their previous works, in this project their aim is to once again explore the body. nothing’s for something is therefore also a questioning of their own assumptions, of the ‘originality’ -if it actually exists- of their own motives.
Inspired by Paul Klee, who used to dance whilst painting; Georges Perec, master literary miniaturist of daily life; and Rainer Maria Rilke, the ensemble creates a visually powerful reflection on theatre, performance, dance, installation and spatial and imaginative borders. nothing’s for something shows a world in which the invisible becomes visible.

The Norwegian Heine Avdal, who studied at the National College of the Arts in Oslo and P.A.R.T.S. in Brussels, has worked together for 13 years with Yukiko Shinozaki, from Japan, who studied classical ballet in Tokyo and contemporary dance and psychology at Portland State University. Besides creations for the theatre space they develope site-specific projects, which take place in supermarkets, hotels and offices.
