Hungary’s Foreign Ministry To Help Tóásó Return Home
Péter Szijjártó, the foreign minister, has instructed Hungary’s ambassador accredited to Bolivia to help Előd Tóásó return home, the ministry said. Its statement welcomed the imminent release of Tóásó, a Hungarian Romanian citizen held in prison on terrorism charges

Tóásó has been in pre-trial detention in Bolivia since April 2009, when Bolivian special forces cracked down on what was believed to be a terrorist unit in Santa Cruz.

Bolivian- Hungarian Eduardo Rózsa-Flores, ethnic Hungarian from Romania Árpád Magyarosi and Irish citizen Martin Dwyer died in the attack.

Tóásó was arrested and has been kept in detention under suspicion of an armed uprising and terrorism.

Two years ago the Bolivian government rejected a position by the European Parliament calling on Bolivia to ensure fair and independent trial. Charges were officially raised four years ago but the trial was postponed several times.

At the weekend, Szijjártó instructed the ambassador in Buenos Aires, who is also responsible for Hungary’s affairs in Bolivia, to handle the matter personally with the local authorities to ensure that Tóásó leaves the country as soon as possible.
