Nézőpont: Putin -Orbán Dialogue In Hungary “Successful”
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán managed to pursue successful dialogue with Russian President Vladimir Putin while maintaining his stance as an ally of the West, think-tank Nézőpont said after Tuesday’s talks.

The pragmatic meeting of the two leaders confirmed that Orbán was “not involved in swing politics as a member of a western alliance, but he pursued realpolitik without neglecting the values and interests of the NATO and the EU.”

In spite of the tense global political situation, the expiry of Hungary’s long-term gas contract and Hungarian and regional energy security needs were such that the Hungarian government could not afford to postpone the meeting.

Further, the government rightly strove to strengthen economic relations, it added. Hungarian diplomacy cannot be branded as maverick, Nézőpont said.

Orbán’s dedication to the western alliance was demonstrated by his expression of clear support for the Minsk ceasefire agreement to stabilise while taking into consideration unique Hungarian interests resulting from the ethnic Hungarian community in Ukraine and unilateral dependence on Russian energy.
