European Liberals Raise Voice Over Hungary’s “Xenophobic Mailing” On Migration
The Alliance of Liberals and Democrats (ALDE) in the European Parliament have submitted a question seeking to “verify that the public consultation on migration launched by the Hungarian government complies with the values, principles and legislation of the European Union”.

The group has described the questionnaire the Hungarian government plans to mail to voters as “xenophobic mailing”.

ALDE urged the European Commission to determine whether the letter accompanying the questionnaire and signed by Prime Minister Viktor Orban would qualify as incitement to hatred, the group said in a statement.

Sophie In’t Veld, vice-president of the ALDE Group, has expressed concern, arguing that the questionnaire, containing 12 questions on immigration and terrorism, is “manipulative and leading”.

She questioned European People’s Party vice-president Frans Timmermans over his group’s continued support for Orbán and asked when this support would stop.
