Amnesty Protests For Refugees In Budapest
The Hungarian office of Amnesty International staged a protest outside the main entrance to Parliament on Saturday to mark World Refugees Day. Organisers said they aimed to draw attention to the plight of people in distress and to protest against misleading questions on the national consultation and the fence planned to be built on the border with Serbia. Orsolya Jenei, head of the Hungarian office, urged common action in the refugee question and said the anti-immigration billboards also foment xenophobia.

None of the five countries that receive refugees are in Europe, yet the EU often considers defence of its borders more important than saving human lives, she added.

The 30-minute demonstration ended peacefully.
