Bokros: Hungary Needs Immigrants
Hungary needs immigrants, Lajos Bokros, leader of the non-parliamentary party Modern Hungary Movement, said at a demonstration against the government’s immigration policy held in front of Parliament. “Taking in economic immigrants is a national interest, as they help create jobs and pay taxes … provided there is good governance,” Bokros told some 150 protesters, adding that immigrants needed to be helped for humanitarian reasons as well.

Addressing the government’s billboard campaign warning migrants not to take away the jobs of Hungarians, Bokros said it was the current government which was “threatening jobs, as some half a million Hungarians are now trying to make a living in Western Europe”.

He said the government does not respect the law and that the billboard campaign equals to the crime of incitement against a community. Protesters held up banners reading “We don’t want an iron curtain” and “We can’t live in hate”.
