Growing Labour Shortage At Lake Balaton In Hungary
The shortage of skilled workers at Lake Balaton has risen to dramatic levels this summer, local website sonline.hu reports. Restaurants and hotels are finding it increasingly difficult to keep staff, due to emigration, the report says, citing the example of one restaurant where the entire staff quit overnight, leaving the message: “We have gone to Austria”.

Austria offers better job conditions and wages for restaurant personnel, Napi Gazdaság writes.

Caterers are struggling to find kitchen workers, not to mention wait staff.

The retailers and caterers association Kisosz is also experiencing a growing shortage of labour.

“Recently we held a training course, where three out of four applicants already had job offers from abroad, and came only to finish the course”, chairman Gábor Antalffy told Napi Gazdaság.

Last year, the catering industry was forced to hire from Bulgaria and Romania, but that has taken its toll on the quality of service, Napi Gazdaság adds.
