Juhász Offers To Buy Budapest Council Property
Fifth District councillor Péter Juhász has made an offer of Ft 139 million to buy a property on Deák tér which the local council plans to sell to a law firm with which it often does business for Ft 79 million. The Together politician has raised the money on Facebook. Juhász hopes to prove that the council will be guilty of misuse of funds if it goes ahead with plans to sell the property at half of its market value.

The 237m2 property was evaluated by an independent appraiser at Ft 154 million in 2012. As the building has since been renovated, the unit is now worth Ft 192 million, Juhász said.

A 95m2 unit in the same building was recently sold for Ft 82 million.

The local council told the daily that Juhász has no legal possibility to purchase a property currently occupied by a tenant.

Deputy mayor László Böröcz said the council was not aware of the 2012 appraisal, but will examine the sale of the property and have not yet said the final word.
