Agglomeration Services Remain Budapest Transport Centre’s Duty Until 2022
The municipality of Budapest is not obliged to provide agglomeration transport services but it is the Budapest transport centre BKK’s duty to organise it until 2022, daily Magyar Idők said on Thursday citing the economy ministry. The financing of Budapest transport company BKV services beyond the city limits will be negotiated between the municipalities of Budapest and Pest County, with the government to be represented by the development ministry in the talks.

During talks in 2015, all options have been assessed and the necessary legal amendments have been made to guarantee BKV’s long-term financing.

Budapest Mayor István Tarlós said on Tuesday that the municipality of Budapest will no longer finance the public transportation of the city’s agglomeration.

The suburbs outside the city will have to talk to the state about this issue, he said.
