First Hungarian Electronic ID Cards Issued
The first new biometric personal identification card was presented by interior ministry state secretary László Tasnádi in Budapest on Monday. The new e-card combines personal identification functions with social insurance and tax information. Interior Ministry state secretary for law enforcement László Tasnádi said the e-card “opens the door to digital processing”.

István Ignácz, head of the Public Administration and Electronic Public Services office, said 39,204 citizens have applied for the new cards since the office began accepting applications on January 4.

Some 94% of the cards are equipped with chips, and 70% contain fingerprints and 19% electronic signatures.
