EC Approves EUR 95 m For International Road Section Upgrade In Lake Balaton Area
The European Commission on Monday approved the allocation of 95 million euros from the EU Cohesion Fund to upgrading an international road section in the northern region of Lake Balaton, in western Hungary, the EC said in a statement. The project covers a 27-kilometre section of main road number 8 between the cities of Székesfehérvár and Veszprém, it said. It is part of the TEN-T expressway and completes earlier works.

The TEN-T programme was established by the EC to support the construction and upgrade of transport infrastructure across the European Union.

“This project, forming part of the TEN-T network, will have a concrete and positive impact on industry, tourism and the quality of life of the people living in the wider east Balaton area.

It will contribute to removing traffic bottlenecks, improving road safety and reducing noise and air pollution,” said Corina Cretu, EU commissioner for regional policy.
