Terri Potoczna Fussen Exhibition, Brody Studios Budapest, 19 February
- 16 Feb 2016 8:04 AM
Opening: Friday 19 February 2016 at7pm
For this experiment in perception, photographer Terri Potoczna Fussen advertised for Roma volunteers to choose a person from a selection of famous paintings whose appearance they would like to 'try on'. She went all over Hungary to meet them and recorded the discussion about their choices as well as their comments about Roma identity.
The result was a series of images which clashed with received ideas of what roma people look like and led to debate across the entire media spectrum. All the roles were chosen by the models and not influenced by the artist.
The project premiered in 2010 at Bálint Ház Budapest then became part of the Decade of Roma Inclusion touring exhibition which went to five major cities and towns in Hungary. We are pleased to showcase the collection at Brody Studios within a pop-up exhibition for a weekend.
Terri Potoczna Fussen is a London based photographer. Before going to the London College of Printing to study photography and other media she ran a fringe theatre company. Her past exhibitions include 'People Pretending to be on the Telephone Using Various Personally Selected Objects'; 'Jews and Arabs of Tunisia' and Le Monde est aux Putes which last showed in Zurich.
