Együtt Calls Police To State -Owned Company Office Over Audit
The opposition Együtt party called the police to the premises of state-owned Centre for New Generations Non-Profit LLC, saying that it failed to allow the State Audit Office (ÁSZ) access to documents for an audit required by law. ÁSZ said in a statement on Wednesday that it sought to conduct an audit of asset management and finances for the period of 2011-2014 as required by law to assess their effect on government sector debt.

ÁSZ said that the company, however, rejected to provide the requested documents over which the audit office filed a report at the prosecution.

It said that the company, which was based at Zánka near Lake Balaton before moving to new premises in Bajza street in Budapest last summer, specialises in youth tourism, education, health-tourism, sports and rehabilitation projects, as well as vocational training.

Ownership rights to the company were held by the public administration and justice ministry between April 2012 and October 2014 before being taken over by the human resources ministry.

The company rejected ÁSZ’s claims, insisting that it has provided the audit office 3,500 pages of documents and 1.5 GB of data, adding however that some of the documents “had been damaged by the downpour on August 17 last year.” The company said it had informed ÁSZ about this, adding that it would provide all details once efforts to restore documents yield result.

On Thursday morning several police officers arrived at the company’s premises whom Együtt’s deputy leader asked to confiscate the documents.

Péter Juhász told reporters that police would prepare a report about the case and a decision on the form of further action would be taken after evaluating the report.
