A 1.0% Increase In Tourism Nights At Accommodation Establishments

In May 2016, compared to the same month of the previous year:
The number of international tourist arrivals rose by 3.3% and that of international tourism nights by 2.2% (to 1 million 251 thousand). The number of international tourism nights increased in six of the nine tourist regions.
Out of the most important source countries, the number of tourism nights spent by visitors from the United Kingdom, the United States and Germany increased by 7.6%, 5.4% and 0.3% respectively. The number of tourism nights decreased by 0.4% and 1.4% in case of visitors from Austria and the Czech Republic respectively. Poland had a prominent role this month, Poles spent 35% more nights in our country, and furthermore Poland got into the 6 most important source countries. Guests from Russia spent 13% fewer tourism nights in Hungary.
The number of domestic guests decreased by 1.1% and that of tourism nights spent by them by 0.4% (to 1 million 26 thousand). The turnover measured on the basis of domestic tourism nights fell in five of the nine tourist regions.
Room occupancy in hotels increased by 0.9 percentage point to 56.7%.
The total gross revenue of accommodation establishments (HUF 35.2 billion) was 5.1% higher. Within this, accommodation fee revenues (HUF 21.0 billion) were up by 6.5%, catering revenues (HUF 7.2 billion) by 2.1% and other revenues (also HUF 7.0 billion) by 4.1%.
Széchenyi Recreation Card holders spent 1.3% more in accommodation establishments. (Based on information provided by operating accommodation establishments, the Recreation Card was accepted by 2,086 units, in a value of HUF 1.8 billion.)
On 31 May 2016, compared to the same date of the previous year:
The number of units operating in Hungary was 1.3% lower (2,978), that of bed-places fell by 0.6% (to 288 thousand).
In January–May 2016, compared to the same period of the previous year:
Accommodation establishments registered 5.4% more, a total of 8.4 million tourism nights. Foreign guests spent 4.8% more (4.5 million), while domestic guests spent 6.1% more (4.0 million) tourism nights in accommodation establishments.
Room occupancy in hotels rose by an average of 1.7 percentage points, to 48.9%.
Accommodation establishments reached gross revenues of HUF 132.6 billion, 7.6% higher in total at current prices.
The value of the use of Széchenyi Recreation Card grew by 8.9% in accommodation establishments, guests spent a total of HUF 6.0 billion using this payment option.
