'Spy Movie Games'? Gov't Commissioner for Budapest Threatens to Demolish Opposition MP’s House
Government commissioner for Budapest Botond Sára, a Fidesz politician, is preparing to have independent MP Bence Tordai’s house demolished, on the grounds that it was built without a permit, and the law mandates the demolition of any house built irregularly or illegally.

Tordai indeed did not have a permit, Telex writes, because he did not need one according to the rules that came into force in 2016.

The government office approved the plans in 2017, but declared the house illegal in 2022.

Sára maintains that Tordai submitted a plan to renovate his house, then demolished the house and built a new one instead, for which he did not have a permit and which does not comply with local building regulations, as confirmed by a Kúria ruling in May of 2023.

Tordai said that such claims are lies, adding that the house is now being unfairly targeted for demolition, and accusing Sára of abusing his authority and endangering the future of his four children.

Sára dismissed Tordai’s accusations as baseless, stating, "You can play all kinds of spy movie games here, but neither I nor the office have any discretion in the matter."
