Budapest Mayor Tarlós: Metro Halt Would Create Chaos
It could have unforeseeable political consequences if the M3 metro line were to be stopped before the commencement of renovation work due to safety risks, mayor István Tarlós told Inforádió Wednesday evening.

The safety of the M2 metro line for passengers is not dire according to the opinion of professionals, but if this changes the management of the Budapest transport company BKV will stop transport on the line regardless of the political consequences and upcoming election, he added.

He said more frequent checks and controls are conducted and experts will act at the first suspicious sign.

Tarlós stressed that the longer the stalling goes on, the later the problem will be solved because of the lengthy implementation period.

Taking new tenders into consideration, renovation work could start next June and end in the first half of 2020, but some stretches could be finished sooner.
