Anti-Putin Protests Turn Creative
Activists of the Momentum party re-pasted the names of several streets in Budapest early Monday morning, restoring their names from the Communist era, in response to the visit by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Fõvám tér was changed to its old name Dimitrov tér, Lehel tér to Élmunkás tér, Ferenciek tere to Felszabadulás tér, Nyugati tér to Marx tér and a section of the Nagykörút was again labelled Lenin körút.

A Momentum sticker posted on the signs read “Don’t let it happen again.”

During the day they expected to hand out copies of the front page of Népszabadság from November 28, 1972, when Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev and the Soviet leadership arrived in Budapest.

Together vice-president Balázs Berkecz and party activists unveiled a banner with the caption ”We shall not be a Russian colony” when Putin arrived in the Papp László arena for the world judo tournament. Police and security guards led them out.
