The charity drive has been co-organised for the 12th time by the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) and the Hungarian Food Bank to call public attention to the controversy of food waste and the scarcity of food supplies around the world.
The convoy was driving along Andrássy Avenue to be greeted at Heroes’ Square by Vladimir Rakhmanin, FAO’s Assistant Director-General and Regional Representative for Europe and Central Asia.
Rakhmanin welcomed the food campaign event, highlighting statistics showing that the number of people lacking sufficient food supplies had started to increase last year for the first time after several years. World Food Day is celebrated every year around the world on October 16 in honour of the date of the founding of FAO.
