Wines from Mura Region in Hungary Win PDO Status
Wines from the Mura region in southwest Hungary, close to the borders with Croatia and Slovenia, have been added as a Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) in the European Union's eAmbrosia database, the European Commission said on Wednesday.

The PDO protects varieties of white wine, red wine, and Siller, which is a traditional wine style falling between dark rose or light red wine.

Wines from the Mura region are "famous for having intense aroma and flavours, a full body and a fresh, vivid acid structure", the EC said.

A number of Hungarian wines have PDO status, including ones from Badacsony, Eger, Tokaj and Villany.
