St. Martin’s Day Wine Festival, Danubius Hotel Gellért, 8 – 11 November
- 2 Sep 2018 10:13 AM
The hotel – built in the elegant, secession style of early 20th century palace hotels – is considered one of the most spectacular buildings of Budapest, as well as one of the most frequented hotels in town, hosting ever more events addressing not only hotel guests but also the general public.
The St. Martin Day Wine Festival is one of these events, which – beside offering an insight into the wonderful world of the hotel – became the most popular St. Martin Day program of Budapest, based on the „Gellért atmosphere”, wide assortment of wines and top-notch gastronomy.
Gellért Hotel was opened in September 1918 – hence celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. Accordingly, the St. Martin Day gastronomic programs also reflect upon the 100th anniversary of Gellért: starting with a boutique beer festival on Day 0, laying the foundations of the wine festival by tasting the beer selection. In suite restaurant Százszorséf (One Hundred Times Chef) the premium category menu will be prepared by a Michelin star chef, again.
The chefs of the Gellért wine dinner Száz százalék (One hundred percent) celebrate the century old Gellért catering by contributing their creativity and wines matching the dishes, while the Martin Day Sunday Brunch (named: Száz liba egy sorban – One Hundred Geese in a Line) will feature the most popular goose dishes.
This year more than 100 wineries will exhibit and present themselves in Gellért, with 11-11 wine regions introducing themselves on Friday and Saturday. Therefore visitors buying tickets for both days can practically participate at two different wine festivals, enjoying unlimited tasting.
The Gellért Selection champagne assortment will please guests on both days, offering ample opportunities to celebrate the 100th anniversary.
As traditional, on Thursday, November 8 („Day 0”) the wine festival starts with a beer festival. The boutique beer festival will be a proper launch of the wine festival, with Robert Vona, the new chef of Gellért Beer Pub preparing 11 types of beer snacks.
This year again we welcome the Michelin star chef of a restaurant in Gellért. On November 9 and 10, in suite restaurant Százszorséf (One Hundred Times Chef) Eszter Palágyi, head chef of restaurant Costes prepares her menu designed for this single occasion, coupled with select wines in the suite offering a unique view – where numerous emperors, heads of states and church, international politicians, acknowledged scientists and artists stayed in the past century of Gellért’s history.
The wine dinner is also the tradition of the Gellért St. Martin Day. The chefs of the Gellért wine dinner Száz százalék (One hundred percent) celebrate the century old Gellért catering by contributing their creativity and wines matching the dishes.
Having tasted excellent wines, both days are concluded with an „after-party”. On Friday the Hungarian band Anna and the Barbies will entertain their fans with their keenly open style and lyrics celebrating life, while the next day one of the most excellent new-age Hungarian bands, Maszkura és a Tücsökraj take the stage.
On Sunday guests will be welcome at the traditional Sunday brunch, named Száz liba egy sorban ( One Hundred Geese in a Line), featuring the most popular goose dishes prepared by Gábor Müncz, the chef of Gellért.
All that said, it will be well worth spending the days of November 8-11 in Gellért again, at the centennial St. Martin Day Wine Festival.
