Austria Extends Checks Again On Hungarian Border
Austria is extending checks and controls on its borders with Hungary and Slovenia at least until November, Austrian news agency APA reported on Sunday, citing a letter from Interior Minister Herbert Kickl to the European Commission.

Austria and Germany decided in September 2015 in response to mass influx of migrants to restore border checks within the Schengen Zone.

Although the number of asylum requests has dropped considerably – to 13,400 last year from 88,340 in 2015, the border checks have been extended repeatedly.

Kickl said the large number of illegally arriving migrants justifies Austria’s decision.
