The roof structure of Nyugati train station is still being renovated, during which problems that have been hidden since the last renovation almost 50 years ago have come to the surface.

As a result, the renovation work will take six months longer than expected, said state railway company MÁV.

Precipitation has damaged the walls so much that local repairs are not a permanent solution, so the interior masonry must be renovated over a 1,210m2 area.

Another problem is that the internal plinth stones, windows and doors have to be refurbished.

The roof structure of the building is 143 years old. Due to the defects now discovered, additional works had to be ordered, therefore the renovation of the station can only be completed by the summer of 2021.
