New 'Transport Constitution' Will Create Or Increase Public Transport Services in Hungary
Volánbusz, a unit of the state-owned MAV group, will continue to provide intercity bus public transport services in Hungary in the next decade as Construction and Transport Minister Janos Lazar signed the 10-year concession contract with MAV Személyszállítási on Wednesday after the company won the concession tender for the service, MAV said.

As part of a ten-point pledge made by the minister in early January to improve public transport, the company will purchase 1,000 new buses by summer 2026, it said.

The "new transport constitution" will create public transport services or increase the number daily services in around 500 small municipalities.

With the MAV group's integration, passengers will enjoy more and more benefits of having one company providing both fixed-track and road public transport services in Hungary, MAV said.

It noted that in September 2024 Volanbusz submitted a valid preliminary offer for the tender called by the National Concession Bureau, then, following successful negotiations, MAV Szemelyszallitasi, the passenger tranport unit of MAV, submitted the final offer in February 2025.
