News about Sziget keeps arriving in quick succession, and this time, the organizers have announced about forty new names.
“Last week, we announced the strongest electronic lineup in the history of Sziget for the three venues in the Delta District, and now we are showcasing a lineup that truly reflects the festival's musical diversity, where everyone can find their favorite – spanning across genres,” said Tamás Kádár, the main organizer of Sziget Festival, in his announcement.
In 2020, it was already suggested that FKA Twigs would come to Sziget, but due to well-known reasons, it didn’t happen. This year, however, she will bring her latest album Eusexua, released in January, to the festival.
The British eccentric singer-songwriter, record producer, dancer, businesswoman, model, and actress, is widely acclaimed for her work.
Her music spans a wide range of genres, including trip hop, electronica, indietronica, techno, art pop, trance, hyperpop, and avant-garde.
The London-born rapper Little Simz, a recipient of numerous music awards, and also a star of the hit Netflix series Top Boy, is coming to Sziget. The young lady of Nigerian descent has always been ready for success; ever since she can remember, she has been an artist – wildly ambitious, wildly talented, and fully committed to her work.
As an unparalleled performer, with her live band in the background, she completely dominates and commands the stage. Last February, she released her album Drop 7, filled with electrifying energy, and this May, we can expect her next release.
Empire of the Sun, Australia’s most colorful electro-glam-pop duo, is known for their spectacular performances, which resemble a sci-fi fashion gala, and their subtly seductive hit songs like Walking on a Dream and We're the People. After many years, they released their latest album Ask That God last year, which will also be heard at the Island of Freedom.
The Last Dinner Party, a five-member all-female band from the dark corners of East London pubs, caught the attention of major record labels, agents, and promoters in just a few short months. They made a glorious entrance into the guitar music renaissance.
The band’s debut album Prelude to Ecstasy, released in February 2024, was preceded by the single Nothing Matters. The album received critical acclaim and debuted at number one on the UK album charts, and they were nominated for the 2024 Mercury Prize.
The name The Kooks is synonymous with energetic, catchy, dynamic, feel-good songs – something they proved most recently at Sziget in 2018. Since then, they released 10 Tracks to Echo in the Dark in 2022, an album that flirts with a variety of genres from '80s synth-pop and funk to progressive rock, while essentially remaining an indie record – and unmistakably a Kooks one at that.
Then this May, they came out with Never/Know, a release that clearly shows how the band continues to evolve while staying true to its roots. According to critics, the album seamlessly blends nostalgic elements with contemporary influences, resulting in a collection that feels both familiar and refreshing. We’ll be hearing this (too) soon at Sziget.
Over the past decade, Portugal. The Man has become one of rock music’s most precious treasures and a live phenomenon, gaining legendary status as a festival favorite. In 2017, they reached new heights with the release of their platinum-certified Woodstock album.
Their critically acclaimed ninth studio album Chris Black Changed My Life was released in 2023. In addition to their musical achievements, the band has long been committed to social justice.
The newly announced lineup showcases a colorful spectrum of genres, including the young, London based pop singer with genre-smash songs Alessi Rose, spread instant euphoria with a unique acapella sound, The Joy, for those whom interested in a multi-disciplinary artist who blends dark, atmospheric, and experimental elements of pop, Sevdaliza and with a brand new album Bartees Strange has remained impossible to pin down.
Also featured are the French indie rock band Last Train, Dutch revelation Frenna, and the bass singing acapella folk group The Wellermen.
Beyond the musical extravaganza, Sziget has also announced three breathtaking artistic performances that are truly one-of-a-kind. The Island of Freedom will welcome Dutch artist Daan Mathot, who literally battles with depth as he tries to climb out of a pit.
The Brazilian Grupo Impacto de Dança will showcase their performance Three Shouts, representing the phases of life, while the Spanish Troula Street Theatre will dazzle visitors with their beehive-themed dance show throughout all six days of the festival.
