IKEA Store in Hungary to Become World’s Largest Fulfilment Outlet
IKEA’s store in Soroksár in south Budapest is set to become what the owner deems “the world’s largest fulfilment centre” by 2026 as the Swedish furniture retailer is tripling warehouse capacity to support both in-store and online orders via a €50 million investment, it was announced.

After a year-long renovation, the store has reopened with a redesigned layout, integrating the latest automation and digital solutions to create a whole new shopping experience, HVG writes.

Among some of the new features, more than 300 digital screens will replace traditional price tags and posters, while interactive kiosks let customers visualise products such as rugs before purchasing them.

The new operational model could serve as a blueprint for other countries in the future, said David McCabe, who heads IKEA’s operations in the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia, adding that shopping will be even more immersive with a digital experience.

The upgrade will boost the retailer’s capacity to fulfil 950,000 online orders per year, compared to 540,000 at present, while state-of-the-art logistics will reduce operating costs and delivery times.
