Many people don’t want to give up everyday exercise and Budapest offers ideal terrain for running, even near the city center.

1. Margaret Island

The favorite site for runners in the capital is Margaret Island, easily accessible by public transport from both Pest and Buda.

Dedicated athletes frequent the over 5-kilometer long EPDM running track, from early in the morning to late at night, enthusiastically working on their lap times.

The huge park, shady trees and proximity to the Danube can easily distract your thoughts from your day-to-day worries.

2. City Park

The City Park is another popular destination for those looking for exercise. Although the huge park, easily accessible via the Millennium Underground Railway, features no permanent running track, there are still a countless pathways frequented by runners.

It surely feels better to measure the kilometers in such an environment, rather than on downtown’s hot concrete surfaces.

3. Városmajor Park

The Buda side also offers plenty of opportunities for exercising. The Városmajor park is just a few minutes’ walk from the Széll Kálmán square station on the Budapest Metro M2 line.

The park boasts an EPDM running track crossing the huge park as well as numerous other pathways for those looking for more options.

4. Gesztenyés Kert

Gesztenyés kert, next to MOM Park, is also the perfect choice for runners. It also has a permanent running track, and the pathways are wide enough for runners and strollers alike. In fact, baby stroller races are hosted here every week for sporty young mothers.

5. Gellért Hill

If you’re looking for serious challenges, Gellért Hill is the perfect choice. The pathways with steep elevations are sure to keep you fit during summer.

The spectacular views from the Citadella on top of the hill are sure to compensate you for your exhaustion.
