First Hungarian-Made Electric Articulated Bus Debuts in Budapest
Hungary's Kravtex-Kuehne group and state-owned bus company Volanbusz presented the first Hungarian-made electric articulated bus in Budapest.

The articulated version of the group's Credobus Electronell buses is made in Mosonmagyarovar and Gyor and weighs 16 tonnes, Kravtex managing director Istvan Krankovics said. It is lighter than other manufacturers' vehicles so it can be operated with less energy and at lower cost, he added.

Kravtex-Kuehne is ready for serial production, which could help preserve 500 jobs in Hungary and provide orders for 100 domestic suppliers, Krankovics said.

Passengers will have the opportunity to test the Electronell 18 buses early next year.

MAV-START and Volanbusz deputy CEO Laszlo Kormanyos said almost 40pc of Volanbusz's vehicle fleet has been upgraded - with close to 2,500 new buses - in the past six years. The company operates 102 electric buses and plans to put another 20 into service next year.
