Mayor Karácsony Frowns On New Austerity Plans Impacting Budapest
Under an “unexpected austerity amendment” to this year’s central budget, Budapest would be stripped of nearly 12 billion forints (EUR 34.8m) before the end of this year, Budapest’s mayor, Gergely Karácsony, said on Facebook.

The sum is nearly as much as Budapest’s allocations to renew the Chain Bridge, Karácsony said, insisting that the city further faced the “Budapest tax … an even more exorbitant ransom”, to be introduced next year.
