Hungary Punished by UEFA for Homophobic Conduct by Fans
European football’s governing body UEFA has ordered the Hungarian national team to play its next three home matches in empty stadiums, due to the unacceptable behaviour of Hungarian fans in the recent European Championship tournament.

Fans displayed banners and engaged in chants expressing homophobic and racist sentiments at all three of the Hungarian team’s games.

UEFA also ordered the display of the “EqualGame” logo in the closed matches and imposed a fine of €100,000 on the Hungarian Football Association (MLSZ).

Hungary will not have to play its 2022 World Cup qualifying matches behind closed doors, as that tournament is not organised by UEFA.

This is the fourth time that the Hungarian national team has been punished with a closed-door match due to the disgraceful behaviour of fans.

The MLSZ listed on its website the transgressions for which fans were punished.
