2022 Public Holidays In Hungary
In Hungary, depending on which day of the week a bank holidays falls, the previous or the following day is deemed to be a 'rest day' to make a long weekend for employees to enjoy.

In these cases, Saturday is usually declared a working day instead, to keep the number of work days the same during the year.

National holidays and rest days in 2022:

14 March (Monday): rest day to create a 4-day long weekend (12 – 15 March)

15 March (Tuesday): commemoration of the revolution in 1848

26 March (Saturday): working day in exchange for the rest day on 14 March (Tuesday)

15 April – 17&18 April (Friday – Monday): 4-day long weekend with Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday

1 May (Sunday): Labor Day

5 and 6 June (Sunday and Monday): Pentecost

20 August (Saturday): St. Stephen’s Day or the Day of the New Bread

15 October (Saturday): working day in exchange for the rest day on 31 October (Monday)

23 October (Sunday): commemoration of the revolution in 1956

31 October (Monday): rest day to create a 4-day long weekend (29 October – 1 November)

1 November (Tuesday): All Saints’ Day

24 December (Saturday): Christmas Eve, short day - meaning everything shuts down around midday

25 – 26 December (Sunday – Monday): 1st and 2nd day of Christmas

31 December (Saturday): New Year’s Eve, short day - meaning everything shuts down around midday

1 January 2023 (Sunday): New Year’s Day

Hungarian employees will have two four-day weekends, but they have to make up for the working days that fall on the two Mondays by working on another weekend.
