Art Works by Winners of Marcel Duchamp Prize Now on Show at Ludwig Museum
Now on display until 25 August. The Ludwig Museum of Contemporary Art in Budapest is now offering an insight into the recent history of contemporary French art, from the perspective of the winners and nominees of the Marcel Duchamp Prize in its new exhibition that opened on Tuesday.

Prestigious Marcel Duchamp Prize is 25 years Old This Year

This unique exhibition in Budapest presents works using different media, drawing a kind of timeline between the early years of the Marcel Duchamp Prize and the present.

While some works were included in the exhibition related to the prize when the artist was nominated, other works are considered iconic within the artist's oeuvre; at the same time, the exhibition also includes a defining work from the recent French scene (Tatiana Trouvé, Mohamed Bourouissa).

Several artists represented France or other countries at the Venice Biennale (Anri Sala, Céleste Boursier-Mougenot, Julien Creuzet, Kapwani Kiwanga, Latifa Echakhch, Zineb Sedira), and a work that was originally included in the Biennale (Camille Henrot) will also be presented.

In addition to several renowned French contemporary galleries, works have come from institutions such as MAC VAL or Lafayette Anticipations, they emphasised.

The prominent French contemporary art institution the Centre Pompidou in Paris has been a partner of the privately launched award since its inception, which plays a major role in promoting contemporary art in France and in promoting the international careers of nominated artists.

The initiative, founded by ADIAF (Association for the International Diffusion of French Art), has grown over the years into a highly regarded national art award, also highly regarded in the international professional discourse.

The committee selects artists who were born or live in France and who define the French scene as the arena for their artistic fulfillment.

The selection presented by the Ludwig Museum features 18 artists, the vast majority of whom are key players in the international fine arts scene, the statement highlighted.

The title of the exhibition - Found in the Field - refers on the one hand to the phenomenon of Duchamp's "found object" (ready made), paying homage to the artist who lent the name to the award. On the other hand, it refers to the creative process of the exhibiting artists, and the theoretical and practical research fields used for it.

The reparative process, as well as the initiatives examining the present and future along this line, also play an important role within the exhibition.

The exhibition, which can be visited until August 24 - curated by Jan Elantkowski and Borbála Kálmán - is dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the award's founding, and at the same time, the museum offers one of the most comprehensive French contemporary immersions in Hungary in recent times.

The exhibition was organized as part of the Bartók Spring International Art Weeks by Müpa and the Ludwig Museum - Museum of Contemporary Art, in cooperation with the French Institute in Hungary and ADIAF, and with the support of the French Institute's IF Incontournable and PICC programs, the announcement states.
