Budapest Taxis Hiking Fares from Monday
The cost of taking a taxi in the capital will rise by one third from Monday, on the back of a rise in fuel prices, higher inflation, and an increase in the minimum wage.

The basic taxi fare in Budapest will rise from 700 forints (EUR 1.8) to 1000, while the per-kilometre fare will go up from 300 forints to 400.

The per-minute fee will rise from 75 forints to 100 forints, based on a decree issued by the metropolitan assembly on 13 April.

The fare increase is the result of a compromise reached between taxi companies and the Budapest administration, Ambrus Kiss, one of the city’s deputy mayors, said when the decree was announced.
