As details about properties bought for residential purposes are kept secret, the Ft 30 billion figure only covers properties bought for an official purpose.
The government bought four buildings between 2010 and 2017, and then 19 more after 2017, mainly in Central and Eastern Europe.
The most expensive purchase was the building that hosts the Hungarian consulate in Munich, bought for €16.9 million in August 2019.
In other large acquisitions, the government purchased the Hungarian House in Brussels for €10 million in 2021, while the embassy in Bratislava cost €9.2 million.
State asset manager MNV reported in August 2023 that the Hungarian state owns 396 foreign properties in 50 cities, while a later report said the state owns 94 properties used for diplomatic, cultural, and commercial purposes, including one in Pyongyang, North Korea.
