'They're Trying to Silence Me', Says Leader of Hungarian DK Party
- 19 Jan 2026 10:20 AM
Dobrev noted that the background to the case included not only the allegations linked to the Szolo Street youth offender institution but also other suspected paedophile cases.
She cited the example of a parish priest in Kecskemet who reportedly received "tens of millions of forints" from the innovation ministry and was alleged, according to press reports, to have abused a nine year-old.
Dobrev insisted that DK was the only party daring to probe what was happening within Hungary's churches.
She asked: "Why has the Hungarian state handed over all its child protection institutions to the churches? Why are they unwilling to address, for example, suspending the seal of confession? Why do Fidesz and the Christian Democrats constantly defend church figures who have abused, even raped, children?"
Dobrev insisted that the "retribution" promised by Prime Minister Viktor Orban over coverage of the paedophile cases was ongoing. She recalled that DK politicians had been asking Fidesz and the Christian Democrats for months to identify "Uncle Zsolt", but had received no answer.
Nevertheless, she said, the DK was closing in on uncovering the high-ranking state or police officials who may have protected paedophile offenders in recent years.
