Nearly 20% of MAV Passenger Trains Ran Late in 2025

Last year 81.4pc of passenger trains were on time or were late no more than six minutes, up from 78.5pc in 2024, state-owned transportation company MAV Group CEO Zsolt Hegyi said in a post on social media.
In December 83.6pc of trains were on time, up by 5pc compared to a year earlier. During the summer months the share of trains sticking to their timetables was 7pc higher than in the summer of 2024, Hegyi said based on an annual report of MAV Group.
The report attributed the annual improvement to targeted track renovations, more modern locomotives and the faster handling of emergency situations.
Hegyi said MAV Group targets an 88pc punctuality rate for trains by 2030. The report noted that the current punctuality rate for its buses is around 97pc.
